Game rules

Preparation: 3 to 6 players and a deck of playing cards without jokers. Cards A through 10 count at face value; J, Q, and K count as 0.5 points. Agree on the base penalty and bidding increment first.

  1. Deal one face-down card to each player; they may look only at their own card. Take nine more cards and auction them one at a time, turning each one face up.
  2. Bid by stating how much you will drink; you may only raise the bid or pass. When the host calls three times with no higher bid, the highest bidder drinks the amount they bid and takes the card. If no one bids, discard the card. If someone reaches 10.5 points, double the base penalty.
  3. After all nine cards have been auctioned, reveal everyone's cards. A total of exactly 10.5 has no penalty. Players above 10.5, and the player with the lowest score among everyone else, each drink the final base penalty. If several players tie for the lowest score, they all drink.
