Game rules
Preparation: 2 to 6 people, a deck of 52 playing cards, no jokers. Take turns to be the dealer, and agree on a basic penalty of 1 to 3 units for each hand. A can be counted as 1 or 11, J/Q/K can be counted as 10, and the rest are as shown.
- The dealer gives each player and himself two cards. The player's cards are face up; the dealer has one up card and one hidden card.
- If the dealer's open card is an A or a 10-point card, check the hidden card first. The dealer's first two cards are 21 points and are called BJ: the player without BJ will receive double the basic penalty; if both players have BJ, it will be a tie.
- When there is no dealer BJ, players can choose to stop, ask for cards, or split the cards when the first two cards have the same number. Each time a player draws a card or splits a hand, the penalty for that hand increases by one unit.
- If a player exceeds 21 points, that hand busts immediately and the player takes the penalty accumulated for that hand. After the cards are split, the two hands are settled separately.
- After the player completes, the dealer turns over the hidden cards; the dealer must draw at 16 points or less and stand at 17 points or more.
- The player with unexploded cards will compare points with the dealer: the player with the lower score will receive his accumulated units; if the player has the same points, there will be a tie. When the dealer busts his cards, the players still present win; a player’s BJ from their first two cards beats an ordinary 21, and the dealer accepts twice as much.
- When a deck of cards is used up or there are not enough cards to open another hand, the player on the left takes over as the dealer and reshuffles the cards.
